Workshop Collection of Essential Rare Works

    The Workshop Essential Rare Works Collection in Biodiversity: governance, operation and digitization will take place in São Paulo (SP), Brazil, from February 3rd to 5th, 2010, with the objective to debate, evaluate and exchange information, experience and knowledge on digitization of rare works, defining processes and procedures for the creation and operation of Essential Rare Works Collection in Biodiversity, based on national library collections.

    The focus will be on how to create a large-scale regional resource center of the world’s digital biodiversity literature for Latin American and Caribbean. The workshop will also define the specific actions, assignments and roles for the Latin American and Caribbean Biodiversity Heritage Library and international partners.

    The workshop schedule will address four topics covered by BHL specialists:

    • Policies and Organization of BHL;

    • Collaboration and partnership;

    • Digitization Technology and work process;

    • Portal and related application development.

    The workshop is part of the Digitization and Online Publication of Essential Rare Works Collection in Biodiversity from the Brazilian Libraries Project, which is sponsored by the Ministério do Meio Ambiente, FAPESP (through Programa SciELO, Biblioteca Virtual FAPESP and Programa BIOTAFAPESP), Associação Memória Naturalis, Museu de Zoologia da USP, BIREME/PAHO/WHO and a network of libraries that hold biodiversity collections.


    Attendance

    The workshop is aimed at technical groups of institutions involved in the project, including the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), Ministério do Meio Ambiente, Museu de Zoologia da USP, BIREME/PAHO/WHO, libraries' network with biodiversity collections and other partner institutions of the Digitization and Online Publication of Essential Rare Works Collection in Biodiversity from the Brazilian Libraries Project.
